Mixing Fresh & Faux Flowers: The Perfect Balance of Fragrance, Beauty, and Longevity

🌿 You don’t have to choose between fresh and faux flowers – you can have both.

When I finish work at the shop, you might think I put my feet up. Not a chance. I pop the kettle on, grab my notebook, and get stuck into more flower ideas – new arrangements, colour palettes, combinations that make me smile. And lately, one of my favourite styling secrets is something I’m so excited to share with you…

Here at Blossoms House of Flowers in Skelmersdale and Aintree, we love our fresh blooms for their fragrance, charm, and natural beauty. But we also adore our luxury faux flowers for their elegance, versatility, and the fact they’ll look just as gorgeous years from now.

And when you mix the two? Well, that’s when the magic really happens.

Why Mix Fresh and Faux Flowers?

  • Real fragrance + lasting beauty – Fresh flowers bring scent and movement; faux flowers keep the look full and lush for weeks or even years.

  • Seasonal flexibility – Faux stems let you enjoy peonies in winter or hydrangeas all year round.

  • Better value – Top up your faux arrangement with a few seasonal fresh stems instead of buying a whole bouquet every week.

  • Low maintenance – Less water changing, fewer petals to sweep up, and no sad wilted stems by day five.

A Little Care Tip Before You Start

If you’re adding fresh stems into a vase with faux ones, you can still use water for your real blooms. Just make sure any faux stems in the water don’t have exposed wire at the bottom – otherwise rust can set in. If they do, pop a little clear tape around the base before arranging.

How to Style Fresh and Faux Together

  1. Choose a base – Start with a gorgeous faux arrangement in your favourite vase.

  2. Add your heroes – Swap in a few fresh stems that are in season or that mean something special (think roses for an anniversary, or tulips in spring).

  3. Blend your foliage – Faux eucalyptus is one of my go-tos; it fills out a bouquet and looks so real that even I forget it’s artificial sometimes!

  4. Think about colour balance – Pick fresh blooms that complement your faux palette. An orange rose next to faux lilac can look breathtaking.

  5. Keep it personal – Add stems from your garden or flowers you’ve been gifted – that’s what makes arrangements truly yours.

My Favourite Fresh + Faux Pairings

💜 Orange Roses + Faux Lilac & Purple Hydrangea – The drama of orange with the calm of purple.

🌸 Fresh Pink Peonies + Faux Ivory Roses – Soft, romantic, and timeless.

🌿 Fresh Eucalyptus + Faux White Hydrangeas – Crisp, clean, and perfect for modern interiors.

🌼 Fresh Daffodils + Faux Cream Roses – A bright, spring-ready combination that makes me smile every time.

Seasonal Swap Ideas

  • Spring – Fresh tulips in with faux cherry blossom branches.

  • Summer – Fresh lavender with faux peonies and roses.

  • Autumn – Fresh sunflowers tucked into faux eucalyptus and berries.

  • Winter – Fresh pine sprigs with faux white roses for a frosty, festive feel.

Why Our Faux Flowers Are Different

Every faux stem at Blossoms House of Flowers is hand-selected for its quality and realism – no plasticky shine, no cheap fabric fraying. Our arrangements are designed by florists (that’s me and my team!) who work with fresh flowers every single day, so our faux work is inspired by nature’s very best.

We make sure the shapes, shades, and textures look just like the real thing – so when you blend them together, even the keenest eye will struggle to tell them apart.
